About

I am a 28 year colon cancer survivor, ostomate and patient advocate working with numerous cancer and ostomy support organizations. I have survived colorectal cancer and believe that anyone battling cancer from the moment of diagnosis becomes a cancer survivor. Our journeys as cancer survivors vary in length, difficulty and outcome. Our paths are diverse, but share many common elements. Denial, fear, anger, confusion, defiance and acceptance are some of the common elements. A successful journey takes a special attitude, a determination to take control of our situation and rise to the fight of our lives, win the battle, survive the cure and enjoy the journey.

  1. I must say, you did a marvelous job of summarizing the common elements of dealing with a nasty chronic illness. I have an ostomy as a result of Crohn’s disease, not cancer. I look forward to reading your blog! Especially since I don’t count as “active” yet. I need all the inspiration I can get.

  2. Hello,

I am contacting you to enquire if you would like to add details of Active Ostomates to the new Blogs section on my website.

My website is proving extremely valuable to ostomates, suppliers, support groups, medical consultants and stoma care nurses, both here in the U.K. and internationally, and it is now recognised as one of the top ostomy resource websites in the world. I look after my website on a voluntary basis, and there would be no financial cost involved for you. My website is not for financial gain, but to provide ostomates with as much support and information as possible.

If you are interested, could you please email me, and I can provide you with the necessary information for you to be included. I look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, take care.

    Kind regards, Jean.

  3. I just wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. There are quite a few steps to do to accept the award and they can be found on my most recent blog post: http://www.livingbiggerwithcolostomy.com/2013/05/versatile-blogger-award.html
No worries if you don’t have time to go through that process. I am just happy to share your site with my readers because we share that positive determination and zest for life.

    Paul
